There are mainly two methods to “authenticate” works of art: the eye of the historian and a procedure based on a combined approach where experts of different disciplines are involved in the authentication process. The “subjective method” depends on the authoritativeness of the art historian involved in the examination, while the “integrated method” gathers art historians, chemists, diagnosticians, forensic analysts, graphologists and experts of other disciplines.
“The Francis Bacon Collection of the drawings Donated to Cristiano Lovatelli Ravarino” has been applying the “integrated method of authentication” for many years on the works in its possession. For this reason, during the presentation of the book “WORKS IN PAPER- FRANCIS BACON” curated by Edward Lucie Smith and Umberto Guerini, including most of the drawings of its collection, many well-known experts will discuss the authentication method of works of art, explaining the most recent acquisitions in the field.
