Born in Dublin, Ireland, Francis Bacon (1909-1992) is one of the most representative painters in the 20th century. This exhibition of Bacon’s drawings, at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts until May 20, 2012, is the first time that they are exhibited in Asia. In addition to showcasing the drawings, the exhibition also presents images illustrating Bacon’s life and studio. Visitors can learn how Bacon used blurry, blended colors and powerful, dynamic strokes to portray indiscernible faces as if to expose the spiritual states hidden under faces of different people in the society. The works are of significant meaning in the history of Western art because they provide valuable clues in clearing the misunderstanding that Bacon always painted by directly applying oil paints on the canvas. Through this exhibition, viewers can have deeper understanding of the creative mind and technique of such a unique artist.
